Subscription creep is silent

AI tools rarely arrive as one big decision. They arrive as a $20 add-on, a $10 credit pack, and a free trial that converted while you were busy. Individually each looks trivial; combined they can quietly consume the margin of a small side hustle.

Auditing means listing everything you actually pay, not everything you have heard of. Tick only the tools you opened in the last 30 days, then add the ones you forgot about — the gap between those two lists is the money you are losing.

How duplicate detection works

The auditor flags pairs that overlap heavily in function: two general chat assistants, two image generators, or a transcription tool alongside a video editor that already transcribes. Overlap is not automatically waste — but it is the first place to cut.

The rule of thumb used by the result is blunt: if one tool covers roughly 80% of the use case, the second is a convenience, not a requirement. Convenience is fine when margins are healthy and dangerous when they are not.
