Finished hour versus studio hour
Narration produces roughly one finished hour for every two to four hours of recording, editing and proof-listening, depending on experience and how much correction is needed. A 70,000-word book is therefore a multi-week project, not a weekend.
The splitter converts total word count into per-chapter recording and editing hours so the scale is visible before you start.
Chapter length is uneven by nature
Chapters in most books range widely, so a flat per-chapter estimate misleads. Working from actual chapter word counts, or from an average with a variance allowance, produces a schedule you can keep.
Scheduling around a day job means planning in short sessions and leaving buffer for re-records. The plan reflects that rather than assuming ideal conditions.
