Characters, not minutes
Voice platforms meter characters, so a script with long words and numbers costs more than the same duration of simple prose. Estimating by finished minutes hides this; estimating by characters exposes it before you commit to a plan.
The estimator also divides total cost by finished minutes, which is the number you actually need when pricing client work.
Tier cliffs and the commercial floor
Subscription tiers are not linear. Crossing a character threshold can double your bill, and the commercial-license floor is often one tier above the free plan. Both effects are included so the comparison reflects what you will really pay.
If your monthly output is uneven, compare an annual plan against paying per project rather than assuming the subscription is cheaper.
